St.bees Rocks

This is an acrylic on canvas piece based on a sketch made ‘plein air’ at my home village of St. Bees in Cumbria England. These were some of the red sandstone rocks around the headland on the beach. I grew up with this seascape and it has a profound resonance for me. The rocks are eroded and worn by the salty sea water that works it’s way in and around them.
