UK based artist living in Portsmouth. Experimenting with materials and texture in his paintings, Vincent explores and plays with the rectangular, illusory space in which painting exists. His inquiry into the nature of art making has led him to use irregularly cut and randomly placed fragments in the design of his recent pieces. Though abstract, references to the visual world are starting off points in the process; faces, crowds, mountains, explosions and windows; despite the playfulness of the process, the motivation to begin is usually in response to something he is concerned about in the world. Creation from destruction and reconstruction, harmonies of intentioned and chance elements, create the conditions for accidents. It’s a challenging practice and aesthetic. He hopes to achieve a kind of beauty despite the caprice and brutality of the process but his allegiance fundamentally is to the truth. He is not concerned with anaesthetic decoration. For the time being, the work is monochromatic. He decided about a year ago that there was enough happening in the pictures without the further distraction of colour.
